How to Become Dive Master in 2 steps

Step 1: Independent Study with PADI eLearning Dive Master

Interactive lessons cover divemaster-led programs and activities, diver safety and risk management, the aquatic environment and more. Study online or offline using a computer or mobile device. Connect with your instructor whenever you have a question.

  • eLearning time commitment: 8-12 hours

Step 2: At the Dive Shop With Your Instructor

Gain practical experience giving dive briefings, assisting with classes and leading underwater tours. Learn how to anticipate problems and provide assistance, create an Emergency Assistance Plan and improve your navigation and problem-solving skills through practical workshops.

  • Prerequisites:
    • PADI Rescue Diver certification (or qualifying certification);
    • completion of Emergency First Response® Primary and Secondary Care training (or qualifying training) within 24 months;
    • minimum 40 logged dives;
    • medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within 12 months.
  • Total time commitment: 3 weeks minimum
  • Minimum age: 18 (15 for Junior Divemaster)

As a dive professional, you'll want to have all your basic scuba equipment, including a dive computer, a dive knife, and at least two surface signaling devices. During practical skills exercises, like underwater mapping and search and recovery, you'll use a compass, floats, marker buoys, lift bags and slates. Those equipment are not included in this course. Note that our PADI Instructor may suggest additional gear that will be useful throughout your diving career.
For this course you must be 18 years or older and completed the following Course Prerequisites: Rescue Diver, 40 logged dives, CPR and First Aid certification within 24 months and a medical clearance to dive
